| The changing needs and preferences of consumers, and how farmers and SMEs respond to them will be discussed in the Innovations Session n°21 (on Thursday 10 October 2024). Consumers’ demand for food is rapidly changing worldwide, particularly in Africa where a dietary transition from traditional to highly processed foods is being observed, mostly driven by globalisation and urbanisation. Changes in income, employment, taste, and location have direct implications for food choices and shopping patterns. Linked to this topic, COLEAD organises with the OEDC an online session about factors affecting consumer choices for fresh fruits and vegetables on Thursday 20 June 2024, 08:00-09:30 UTC. Register: The session is open to everyone who is interested in attending and will present the multiple factors that influence the decision to purchase and consume fresh fruit and vegetable. Following two presentations on trends and findings of recent research on European consumer’s preferences and choices, two operators in the fruit and vegetable production and retail will share their experiences. We are evolving beyond our sector-agnostic roots, embracing specialized innovation programs that target key sectors; "Green Economy" and "Blue Economy" along with social innovation. Among subsectors of interest we highlight food processing, circular economy , aquaculture and fishing. Attracting and empowering talented and motivated entrepreneurs and small business owners in the agribusiness and blue economy to build impactful technology based companies.
